Pyrite, also know as Iron Pyrite or Fool's Gold is a brass coloured mineral with a bright metallic lustre.  Pyrite is formed in a variety ways in varying conditions throughout the world.  Called Fool's Gold because of being mistaken for Gold by inexperienced prospectors, Pyrite often occurs with Gold and large Pyrite deposits can contain Gold.  Gold is relatively soft in comparison to the harder, but brittle Pyrite.

Pyrite is a talisman for unique opportunity and good fortune.  Pyrite was highly prized by indigenous peoples for the belief that Pyrite was a magic healing stone.  Pyrite can inspire enthusiasm and creativity and it is a perfect adornment to one's artistic workspace.

This particular carving is styled to represent Pan, a God in ancient Greek mythology.  Pan ruled over nature and in particular wood areas and pasturelands.  Often depicted as part man, part goat, Pan was stated to be wildly creative, possessing great strength and having a wicked sense of humour.

Stone carved into the human skull form is a tool that can be used with meditative practice to expand your consciousness.
