Moss Agate, an atypical Agate being without banding, is a part of the Chalcedony group due to its microcrystalline structure. Despite its name, Moss Agate does not contain any organic matter; the small filament-like structures in the clear to white Chalcedony stone is due to dendritic inclusions of primarily iron oxides and manganese. Moss Agate is predominantly green, however it can also come in other colours including brown, red and the highly prized purple. The colouring being dependent upon the inclusion and impurity content and the respective level of oxidation.
Moss Agate is connected to both your root and heart chakra, and has a strong connection to the earth and the plant kingdom. There are a multitude of stories and myths about the use of Moss Agate in human history including; use to encourage crop growth and other agricultural pursuits; summon rain in rituals, as a talisman for healing and good health, and as an amulet for protection, and to ward off evil spirits.
In deep meditative practice, Moss Agate can assist you with balancing your spiritual, emotional and physical bodies to return to a slower more considered rhythm, like a solid, steady heartbeat. Moss Agate is a grounding stone and useful for people who live with limited connection to nature, who would like to reconnect to the oneness of the natural plant world.
